Radiology Examination Procedure-Specific Instructions
Different radiology exams have different preparation requirements. Our staff will discuss specific instructions with you, and you can review the information below. Please view the provided information.
Prepare for an Examination
We want your exam to be as comfortable and hassle-free as possible, so we provide all the information you’ll need to prepare before you arrive.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. You may be asked to wear a gown, depending on the type of exam you are having. Avoid wearing jewelry to your appointment, as you may be asked to remove it for the procedure.
Wait times may vary at the clinic, however we will do our best to have you seen as promptly as possible.
What You Should Bring?
- Prescription, requisition or referral from your physician. (we accept all requisitions for other clinic)
- Any previous, relevant imaging exams and reports performed outside of our network.
- Valid Ontario Health Card.
How to prepare for an X-ray?
General X-ray examinations require no preparation and are done on a walk-in basis.
Notes: The facility will stop performing x-rays for 30 minutes each day, while the technologist has lunch. Patients may come in to register during this time. The lunch period is flexible based on the patient volumes each day.
How to prepare for an ultrasound?
- Ultrasounds require appointments. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to register.
- Walk-in appointments may be accepted between appointments, we cannot guarantee wait times.
- An ultrasound examination could take 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the body part.
Abdominal ultrasound
- Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours before your examination (except to swallow necessary medications).
Obstetrical or Pelvic ultrasound
- You need a full bladder.
- Finish drinking 1 litre of water (4 glasses) 1 hour before your examination.
Combination Pelvic and Abdominal ultrasound
- Nothing to eat for 8 hours but complete drinking 1 litre of water (4 glasses) 1 hour before your examination.
Abdomen Limited for Hernia
- No Preparation is required.

NOTES:
*If you have any metal implants in your body, please tell the technologist prior to the x-ray as metal objects may interfere with the quality of the x-ray images being taken.
*If you are pregnant or suspect to be please before registering inform our receptionist and technologists.
